What is Safety Code 6?

This is the Code which defines safe limits for the safe exposure of humans to radio frequency emissions by Health Canada (HC). With SC6, HC specifies safe limits for continuous exposure to non-ionizing radiation emitted from cell phones, WiFi systems, computers, radio antennas and other electronic equipment. As long as the radio emissions are lower than these limits, people are generally safe from harmful effects. Health Canada’s SC6 2015 specification is now among the most conservative specifications for radio emission exposure in the world.

Since 2000, our team of radio engineers have supplied SC6 certifications as part of the Industry Canada radio licensing processes using traditional calculation processes.

However, since 2008, Planetworks has been one of only a few firms in Canada that offer a far more accurate measurement certification using specialized Industry Canada certified test equipment, and measure radio frequency (RF) emissions on site. We measure roof-tops, towers, buildings, vehicles, radio equipment, and virtually any other place where RF emissions are known to exist and/or may be potentially hazardous to people.

For our clients, the biggest advantages of testing emissions on site over calculation are cost savings and the collection of accurate data. Who should conduct SC6 certifications?

In any circumstance where there is a question of someone at risk for a RF safety hazard in a controlled environment (such as a restricted rooftop, or in a public area) it is imperative that the safety risk be assessed by an accredited professional engineer with SC6 knowledge and testing expertise.
